August 10, 2018

DEADLINE TO SUBMIT PROPOSALS HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO AUGUST 17TH, 2018!!!

July 26, 2018

The Mirvish Village BIA is opening a request for mural proposals. Toronto artists are invited to design and paint murals on one wall façade and our five cement planter boxes along Bloor Street. To create cohesion in designs, we encourage artists or artist collectives to apply for the façade, all five planter boxes or both. Artists applying for only one planter box mural will not be selected.

Artists will be chosen by a jury composed of the Mirvish Village BIA Board of Directors with help from BIA members and community stakeholders. Decisions will be made based on the artist’s concept, how it relates to the community’s values, relevant experience, portfolio of past work and connection to the Mirvish Village community.

Artists are welcome to apply until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, August 17th, 2018.

PLEASE NOTE, WE ENCOURAGE ARTISTS OR COLLECTIVES TO APPLY FOR BOTH PROJECTS.

OVERVIEW

In the midst of a major redevelopment, the Mirvish Village BIA has lost many key members of our community including the businesses on Markham Street and Honest Ed’s. We are striving to redefine our community in a way that highlights the values we hold dear and that represents all the unique businesses within our BIA. With so many great existing businesses and many new ones on the horizon, we hope to grow Mirvish Village as a destination for residents and tourists alike. As part of this effort, we have obtained funding to create one façade mural and five planter box murals. To showcase our identity, we are calling on the help of the many talented Toronto artists.

LOCATIONS AND DIMENSIONS

The location of the façade mural is 794 Bathurst Street. The dimensions of the wall are roughly 20’ x 10’. Picture below. Please note that we are working to remove the metal frame before the mural would be installed.

The cement planters are located at 580 Bloor Street West, 574 Bloor Street West, 570 Bloor Street West, 564 Bloor Street West, 560 Bloor Street West. Each planter has four sides with each surface measuring roughly 2’ x 4’. Please note that each planter is slightly unique in shape and size. Pictures below.
